Finding Your Perfect Swing With Pilates

Pilates is a great compliment to golf and may even be the secret to playing your best golf game. Why? Because Pilates focuses on strengthening your body while working on maintaining balance to complete that flawless swing. Although golf is not a contact sport, it is strenuous to the body (contrary to what most people believe). When you think about it, the golf swing is a full body asymmetrical movement. This is where the body endures strain from being in the golf stance and performing the same actions over and over during the 18 holes or so. It becomes very easy to overuse the necessary muscle needed to play your best game.

Why Pilates?

Pilates promotes correct firing patterns, while strengthening muscles on both sides of the body.  Pilates works on core strength, flexibility and mobility while focusing on precise movements to develop more powerful and accurate swings. Whether you're driving the ball, getting out of a bunker or putting, an incredible amount of muscle control and accuracy is needed.  Pilates teaches both these components.

The best players in the PGA tour, including Tiger Woods, improved their golf game with Pilates, why wouldn’t you do the same?

What Makes A Great Golfer (Or Athlete)?

1) Motor Control- learning firing patterns for efficient movement.

2) Flexibility - with the repetitive movements, muscles will get tight. Pilates promotes lengthening these muscles to prevent injury.

3) Stability and Balance- promotes a smoother swing as your body rotates through the swing, especially on varying terrain.

4) Strength- to drive the ball further.
